I want to be a Contact Banker!
The legislative process assumes that constituents will make their views known to their legislative representatives when a particular proposal affects their personal, social, or economic interests. Yet in most cases this does not happen.
The loss of state senators due to term limits means the loss of collective, institutional knowledge—and knowledge is power. Knowing candidates before they are elected and whether they are business- and banking-friendly is now essential.
In an effort to facilitate this process, the NBA Government Relations Committee established the Contact Banker Program to present the industry’s views on legislative issues in an organized manner. The program is designed to have bankers serve as contacts for each member of the Nebraska Unicameral.
Generally, Contact Bankers are bankers who have an existing relationship with one or more members of the Unicameral or who want to become politically active.
If you are a personal friend of a legislator, belong to the same civic club or church, have a banking relationship with a legislator, or would like to get to know your legislator better, you are needed for the Contact Banker Program.
These personal contacts convey the opinion of the industry and provide members of the Nebraska Unicameral with information about the effects of various proposals on their constituents. We need you today!
