Advocacy

The legislative process assumes that constituents will make their views known to their legislative representatives when a particular proposal affects their personal, social, or economic interests. However, in most cases this does not happen.

​​In an effort to facilitate this process, the Nebraska Bankers Association Government Relations Committee has created several areas in which bankers can use their voice as political power.

The NBA's member advocacy focuses on:

• Identifying potential regulatory and legislative issues of concern
• Working closely with our member banks' employees who express the need to change state law
• Carrying bank perspectives and positions to regulators and elected officials in Lincoln and Washington, D.C.
• Maintaining highly-regarded registered lobbyists that work with legislators on state and national banking issues
  
• Supporting pro-banking and pro-business statewide and congressional candidates

The NBA's member advocacy efforts include:

• Reviewing 500 or more bills a year
• Sharing a weekly Legislative Update
• Creating a weekly Bill Summary with the NBA's positions
• Periodic legislative alerts

The NBA publishes several resources related to government relations. These are available only to members of the NBA.

• The NBA’s Bill Summaries provides you with a review every legislative bill of interest to the banking industry.
  
• The Legislative Update is published during the Legislative Session and is a great way to stay on top of bills that may affect bankers.
• The Legal Corner provides information recently rendered Court decisions that may concern the banking industry.
