ACCESSbank | all branches, held a "Winter Gift Drive" from Nov. 21-30 to collect items that will be donated to adults with developmental disabilities.

Bruning Bank | Bruning, Heartland Bank | Geneva, and NebraskaLand Bank | North Platte, were recently named to American Banker's 2022 list of the top 90 "Best Banks to Work For." Heartland Bank ranked 52nd, Bruning Bank ranked 36th, and NebraskaLand Bank ranked 24th.

Citizens State Bank | Newman Grove, held a steak dinner earlier this month as a thank you to all first responder volunteers. Susan King Nielsen, Dennis McCloud, Connie Rankin and Stacie Temme from the bank served the food.

First Bank and Trust Co. | Minden, held an open house on Nov. 18 to celebrate the completion of the bank's remodeling project that began last year.

First Interstate Bank, Horizon Bank and MNB Bank | McCook, and other local businesses were sponsors and provided matching funds for donations given during Big Give McCook on earlier this month. Including the matching donations, the total raised during the event was over $219,000.

First State Bank & Trust Co. | Fremont, helped sponsor a concert by The Flyovers, an a cappella group, on Nov. 29 at the Fremont Opera House.

Frontier Bank | Falls City, held ribbon cutting ceremonies earlier in Nov. for two in-school savings bank branches at Sacred Heart Elementary and South Elementary in Falls City. (pictured)

Heritage Bank | St. Paul, recently donated $585 to the Howard County Senior Center from an internal bank fundraiser called "Heritage Cares."

Homestead Bank | St. Paul, presented a hand-built wooden American flag to the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 in honor of Veterans Day.

Nebraska State Bank & Trust Co. | Broken Bow, and other local businesses helped sponsor the 2022 4-H recognition program for Custer County on Nov. 20.

Michael Mahlendorf | Blair (age 73), passed away on Nov. 18. He served on numerous NBA committees and was the president of WCB in Blair. He also oversaw banks in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota as president of the Lauritzen Corporation. (pictured)

The event was fundraiser for the Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation, which works to prevent childhood drowning through educational programming. Jason is a senior vice president at the bank. First State Bank Nebraska | Hickman, hosted an appreciation dinner and fundraiser on Nov. 3 to thank volunteers who helped battle the recent wildfires in Lancaster County. The bank distributed free-will donation buckets at the event and promised to match up to $25,000 in donations, which will be split equally among the 24 fire departments who responded to the fires.

Adams County Bank | Juniata & Kenesaw, contributed fuel to the harvest bee held near Prosser on Oct. 21. The event was an effort by the farming community in northwestern Adams County to harvest nearly 600 acres owned by a man, Sam Ruhter, who had passed away from pancreatic cancer in April.

American National Bank and Union Bank & Trust Co. | Omaha, and other local businesses helped sponsor the Nebraska Housing Developers Association's recent fundraising event in Omaha.

Cornerstone Bank | York, has purchased Ashton State Bank, effective Oct. 25.

First National Bank of Omaha and U.S. Bank | Omaha, and other local organizations helped sponsor the Mujeres Emprendedoras program awards ceremony on Oct. 15; 132 Latino women graduated this year. The Midlands Latino Community Development Corporation's program provides technical assistance in Spanish to help women achieve their goals through training in financial education, entrepreneurship and childcare.

Deaths

Curtis "Stan" Slife, Jr. | Columbus, passed away on Oct. 20. He began his banking career in 1974 and has worked in banks in Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska. Most recently he served as the director of risk management at Great Plains State Bank in Columbus.
