Banks in the News

Equitable Bank | North Platte, won third place in the "Total Value" category for their steer as part of the Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation (NCF) Retail Value Steer Challenge (RVSC). The RVSC winners were honored at a NCF lunch on June 10 in Valentine. The RVSC raises money to support youth and adult educational programs, scholarships, research and infrastructure projects, history preservation and collegiate judging teams across the state.

First Northeast Bank of Nebraska | Hooper, recently donated $1,000 to the Hooper Area Community Foundation's Community Improvement fund to complete an upgrade to the town's entrance sign and surrounding landscaping.

Five Points Bank of Hastings | Hastings, sponsored the Hastings Open Golf Tournament on June 25-26 at the Lochland Country Club. The bank also was one of the presenting sponsors for the evening concert on June 25 as part of the Flatwater Music Festival in Hastings.

John "Jay" Cattle, Jr. | Seward (age 79), passed away on June 20. He began is banking career in 1964 at the National Bank of Commerce in Lincoln; in 1969 he began working for Cattle National Bank, now Cattle Bank & Trust, in Seward and continued working there until his passing. John was also a 50-year member of the NBA. (pictured)

Bank of Dixon County | Ponca, recently donated $5,000 to the Better Ponca Foundation. The new funds will be used to increase the number and dollar amount of the grants the Foundation can provide to community projects and organizations.

First National Bank of Omaha | Lincoln, recently donated $3,960 to Junior Achievement of Lincoln. The organization's mission is to inspire and help young people succeed. (pictured)

Union Bank & Trust Co. | Lincoln, along with the Lincoln Education Association-Retired organization, awarded four $1,000 scholarships last month to Lincoln Public Schools graduates who will be student teachers this fall.

​Bank of the Valley | David City, hosted a free community hot dog lunch at the bank on June 10.

Commercial State Bank | Nebraska City, recently awarded two $500 scholarships to 2022 graduates from Nebraska City Public School and Nebraska City Lourdes High School.

Community Bank | Alma, and First State Bank | Farnam, are partnering with the Farnam Economic Development Corporation to host a raffle for a 2022 Polaris Ranger. Proceeds from the ticket sales will go to a volunteer fire department of the winner's choice. Other prizes will be chosen by the bank throughout the summer; the drawing will be held on Oct. 14.

Elkhorn Valley Bank & Trust and Midwest Bank | Norfolk, recently volunteered at Daycos' Bike Build Day to help build bikes for children and families in the community. Daycos is a transportation solutions company in Norfolk. (pictured)

​Farmers and Merchants Bank | Ashland, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 3 to unveil its recently finished expansion and renovation project. Updates include new glass panels and doors, bamboo wall panels, a second floor atrium and a full wall collage of old photos and historical documents from the bank.

Lincoln Federal Savings Bank | Lincoln, hosted a Taste of Nebraska ribbon cutting event at its corporate office on Maddox Drive in Lincoln on June 14. The event included a tour of the office building, as well as Nebraska wines, brews and hor d'oeuvres samples.


MNB Bank | McCook, has merged with Bank of Doniphan, effective June 7. All Bank of Doniphan branches, located in Doniphan, Grand Island and Hastings, were included in the merger. The combined banks will operate under the MNB Bank name. MNB Bank held ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the Doniphan and Hastings branches on June 9. (pictured)

​NebraskaLand Bank | North Platte, was the major sponsor for the Bob Spady Memorial Golf Tournament on June 11 at the Lake Maloney golf course. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Miss Nebraska Scholarship Fund. The bank also hosted a Meet-and-Greet with Miss Rodeo Nebraska and the Miss Rodeo winners from eight other states on June 14 at the North Platte location.

Union Bank & Trust Co. | Lincoln, donated $1.5 million to Lincoln Public Schools to aid in the construction of the new stadium at Northwest High School. The stadium will be named Union Bank Stadium for 20 years.

West Gate Bank | Omaha, and Westside State Bank | Bellevue, were "Brew Crew" and "The Race Is On" sponsors, respectively, during Bellevue Rocks on June 9-11. The event was a riverfront music festival and included carnival rides, games, food, a beer garden and fireworks. (pictured)

Horizon Bank | Waverly, offered to match donations - up to $50,000 - for the Greater Waverly Area Foundation Fund for the new Waverly Aquatic Center. The project will feature a lazy river, multiple water slides and concessions stands, while doubling the capacity of Waverly's current public pool.

Riverstone Bank | Gering, was the presenting sponsor for the Color Dash 5K race on June 4 in Gering. The race was non-competitive and served as a fundraiser for the United Way of Western Nebraska.

Union Bank & Trust Co. | Lincoln, was one of the title sponsors for GenLNK's recent mini-golf tournament spring fundraiser. GenLNK is a young professionals group through the Lincoln Independent Business Association's (LIBA). The event raised over $4,000 for Loaves & Fishes in Lincoln.

Community First Bank | Maywood, recently set up a hitching post, built and donated by retired lender Wayne Hildebrandt, to better accommodate local customers who travel by horse and buggy. (pictured)

Cornhusker Bank and West Gate Bank | Lincoln, helped sponsor the Lincoln Community Foundation's annual Give to Lincoln Day on May 26. West Gate Bank was the presenting sponsor. All local business sponsors contributed to a $500,000 match fund that was split among all participating non-profits, based on each organization's percentage of total dollars raised.

First National Bank of Omaha | Lincoln, and other local organizations donated funds to the house-building project completed by students from Lincoln Northeast High School. The school worked with the Lincoln Housing Authority (LHA) to build the home, which will be sold to LHA tenants at an affordable price under the LHA's lease/purchase home ownership program. The bank also recently donated $20,000 to the Nebraska Housing Developers Association in Lincoln to help provide resources for low- and moderate-income families in Douglas and Lancaster counties. Great Plains State Bank | Petersburg, held a free Memorial Day Kick-Off community lunch on May 26.

Hershey State Bank | North Platte, hosted a Kickoff to Summer barbecue lunch and held a drawing for NebraskaLand Days concert tickets. The public could come for free food and donate to area firefighters.

i3 Bank | Bennington, held a free community shred event on May 25.

i3 Bank, Union Bank & Trust Co. and West Gate Bank | Lincoln, helped sponsor the LUXe Party & Art Auction fundraiser event for the LUX Center for the Arts in Lincoln. The event helped raise funds for LUX's education, exhibition, artist-in-residence and outreach programs.

Security Bank | Allen, Hartington, Laurel and Osmond, awarded a total of $4,000 in scholarships to eight graduating seniors from area high schools this year.

Union Bank & Trust Co. | Lincoln, sent 12 staff volunteers on a two-week trip to Warsaw, Poland, through Operation Safe Harbor to help Ukrainian refugees displaced by the war with Russia. The bankers helped refugees with medical needs, groceries, paperwork and children's activities. (pictured)
