Ashton Spieker, Midwest Bank | Norfolk, was named to Wayne State College’s inaugural “10 Under 10 Young Alumni Awards” list. The college will hold the award presentation on Oct. 4 during homecoming week festivities. Spieker is a vice president of commercial and consumer lending at the bank.

Banks in the News

First Interstate Bank | all branches, participated in the bank’s annual volunteer day on Sept. 11. Bank employees assisted with over 350 separate service projects across 14 states.

Midwest Bank | Norfolk/all branches, received the Sower Award through the Governor’s Wellness Award. One of four award categories, the Sower Award recognizes workplaces that have established quality wellness programs.

NebraskaLand Bank | North Platte, provided a steak dinner to attendees at the Gift of Hope Cancer Foundation (GHCF) fundraiser on Sept. 17. Gift of Hope is a nonprofit that helps cancer patients in Kansas, South Dakota and Nebraska with bills and support.

Union Bank & Trust Co. | Lincoln/all branches, received the Harvester Award through the Governor’s Wellness Award. This award recognizes employers who are experiencing documented value and return on investment from their wellness initiatives. Additionally, the bank donated $1,000 to Southeast Nebraska Community Action (SENCA).

Deaths

Pam Slack (age 81) | Gothenburg, passed away on Sept. 5. She worked at First State Bank, now Dayspring Bank, in Gothenburg for over 48 years and semi-retired in 2013, working part-time over the next few years.
