Bankers in the News

Cathy Anderson, First Bank and Trust Co. | Minden, celebrated her 30th anniversary with the bank.

Julie Brownell, Heartland Bank | Burwell, celebrated 10 years with the bank. She is a universal banker.

Matthew Burke, FNBO | Omaha, and Zac Holoch, Cornerstone Bank | York, were chosen for the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce board of directors for 2025. Burke will serve as the Leadership Nebraska Chair; he is the director of commercial banking at FNBO. Holoch will serve as the District 4 Representative; he is the president and CEO of Cornerstone Bank.

Angie Chavez, Security First Bank | Cozad, celebrated five years with the bank. She is a loan servicing specialist.

Randy Korgan, MNB Bank | McCook, participated in a panel discussion during the Economic Development Day for members of the Southwest Nebraska Leadership Institute. The panelists discussed economic development strategies, the critical role of housing and the unique opportunities and challenges of doing business in McCook.

Anne Marx, Midwest Bank | Wisner, celebrated her fifth anniversary with the bank. She is a loan administration representative.

Julia Oltjenbruns, Elkhorn Valley Bank & Trust | Norfolk, received the bank’s Super Eagle Award for exemplifying the bank’s values of excellence, accountability, gratitude, leadership, engagement and service.

John Stinner, FNBO (formerly Western States Bank) (retired) | Gering, was selected for the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame. The 2025 inductees will be recognized during a banquet on Jan. 30. He served as NBA Chair in 2013 and represented District 48 for eight years in the Nebraska Unicameral, including as Chair of the Appropriations Committee.

Matt Williams, Flatwater Bank | Gothenburg, will be inducted into the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame on Jan. 30. He served as NBA Chair in 2003 and as a Nebraska state senator for eight years, representing District 36.

Banks in the News

Auburn State Bank | Auburn, donated $1,000 each to the Auburn Senior Center, the Nemaha County Giving Hope Cancer Fund, and the Nemaha County Veterans Aid Fund.

Bruning Bank and NebraskaLand Bank | Kearney, and other local businesses helped sponsor free turkey dinners for the Kearney Area Community Christmas Meal on Dec. 25 as part of Hot Meals USA.

Cattle Bank & Trust | Seward, celebrated the 25th annual Cattle Classic two-day basketball tournament in partnership with Concordia University toward the end of 2024. The tournament and associated events raised 10,171 cans of food and $2,963 in cash for area food pantries. Since inception this event has raised over 153,607 cans of food and $42,093.75 for area food pantries.

Elkhorn Valley Bank & Trust | Norfolk, raised $1,180 among staff, and the bank matched it, to purchase gifts for women and their children through the Bright Horizons Adopt-A-Family program.

Generations Bank | Exeter, donated $500 to the Exeter Area Community Foundation Fund.

Horizon Bank | McCook, donated $10,000 to the City of McCook Fire Department to help with enhancing the local training facility. Additionally, the bank donated $5,000 to the McCook Food Pantry and $5,000 to the City of McCook to help fund a new inclusive playground for children of all abilities.

Horizon Bank | Superior, donated $13,545 to the City of Superior Parks & Recreation to help upgrade the existing public tennis courts into a pickleball court. The bank also donated $11,455 to the Superior Volunteer Fire Department.

Waypoint Bank | Cambridge, donated $11,230 to the Cambridge Park Foundation to help fund the construction of McKinley All-Inclusive Playground.

Retirements

Kathy Adam, Heartland Bank | Odell, retired on Dec. 31 after 47 years with the bank. A party was held on Dec. 20 to celebrate.

Ron Buss, Elkhorn Valley Bank & Trust | Norfolk, retired on Dec. 31 after 24 years with the bank and 34 total years in banking.

Joyce Lang, South Central State Bank | Campbell, retired at the end of the year.

Jayne Mowinkel, F&M Bank | West Point, retired after 39 years with the bank. She was a customer service representative. The bank held an open house on Jan. 3 to celebrate.

Lisa Rhodes, Western Nebraska Bank | Paxton, retired after 22 years with the bank, including roles of customer service representative and loan clerk during her tenure. The bank held a retirement party on Dec. 19 to celebrate.

Jim and Larry Stanosheck, Heartland Bank | Odell, retired after a combined 109 years of service to the banking industry. Larry served for 59 years, and Jim served for 50 years. The bank held a retirement party on Dec. 7 to celebrate.

Deaths

Charles Berryman (age 84) | Papillion, passed away on Dec. 7. His entire career was in banking, including positions at First Federal of Cozad, Commercial Federal Bank, Cozad State Bank and First National Bank of Omaha.
